Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father, a carnival barker, died when she was a small girl, requiring her mother to support her family through work as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in the tenement area of poverty in Boston, Massachusetts, where she was educated. She left school after two years, to go into acting. The route she took wasn't without its challenges. While in New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed for was not available. Then in NYC, she volunteered at a bar as a check-in girl before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. In Boston, when she worked at night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and during the day she was an usherette. She graduated with a degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
