Family members fled from Afghanistan and sought asylum in the US. The actress was born in the US. Ghanizada is the middle child with two brothers and sisters, and was raised in Northern Virginia. Ghanizada began her career on the television scene through a handful of National Commercials. In the Laura Neri film A Kiss on the Nose (2004) Ghanizada was the principal character in Chiara the performance of which she won the film festival's best actress nomination.
